Review
This was a gig I was really looking forward to for the past few weeks and BSP did not
disappoint
and played a phenomenal and captivating set. The crowd were a little quiet throughout but for an older rocker like me, this was an advantage. All around the stage were pieces of foliage placed to make a "pastoral" atmosphere - even the bass player started out wearing some on his head! The first part of the set was mainly of new songs from the superb new album Open Season and melodies shone through in a confidentand assured manner. The second part of the set were mainly songs from their first album and it was these songs that really showed us how different this band are from mainstream indie scene right now in 2005. It became a little scary as Yan's (lead singer) stary eyes became more piercing...and when he climbed up onto the crowd rail and hung onto pipes on the ceiling before letting himself fall there was an uneasy feeling of "Is he really hurt!" - I'm sure he had a few bruises but that did not stop him diving into the audience afterwards. After the last song which lasted 20 minutes there was absolutely no need for an encore. British Sea Power are something special live and I encourage everyone with a pulse to see them!! 9/10 |
