The
phrase “Back Street Local” might have been invented for the Livvy.
Standing on
Since taking over, Rozi and Phil have made no major changes, but paid much attention to details. As an independent free house, they passed Cask Marque approval in July 2001 and have now been listed as a full entry in the 2002 Good Beer Guide.
Three beers are generally stocked, although no brand is permanently offered. They generally consist of a mild, a standard bitter and a stronger bitter, more often than not one or more of them will be by Wolf. The standard beers cost £1.10 a pint, others around £1.70. In addition, oversized glassed are generally used, which means the customer can be assured of getting a full pint. Top-ups (although rarely required) will usually be provided without asking. How much longer can companies selling far more expensive beers continue to argue for brim measure glasses?
All in all the Live and Let Live is an example of what careful attention to detail in looking after what their own customers really want can do to make a lively local into a thriving business.
