National Pubs Week: Scooped by the Lynn News

The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed that Cask Force’s last edition contained no reference to any local celebration of CAMRA’s National Pubs Week. Well so did some of us, so at the last minute a few of got together for a social at the The White Horse, Gaywood (King’s Lynn).

With assistance from landlord, Mike Hunter, all was set up for the evening. We were going to let you read about it here. As it happened it didn’t work out like that. Lynn New photographer Roy Williamson turned up, took a photo and got a story, and the rest is old (Lynn) News (as if any of us would have tipped a journalist off!)

Anyway we got our own photo as well (see above)

As for National Pubs week, it got good coverage on local TV since CAMRA’s National Pub of the Year was announced as being in South East Essex. If you’re around the back of Witham visit the Swan at Little Totham, by all accounts it’s well worth it.

With the phrase “There’s a Pub for Everyone” National Pubs Weeks celebrated the place of the pub in British society by emphasising the importance of the pub as a social centre, particularly in rural areas and out of the way urban areas which tend to suffer most when closure are mooted.

Thanks to the Landlord Mike Hunter and daughter George for being good sports.
