Union Jack is West Norfolk Branch Pub of the Year 2009
Issued: 9th March 2009 (For immediate use)
The West Norfolk branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), are pleased to announce that the West Norfolk Branch Pub of the Year for 2009 is The Union Jack in Roydon near King’s Lynn
The Union Jack is run and owned by Trevor and Mandy Barlow, who were delighted to have won this award. On hearing of their success they said “It is a great achievement and an honour to receive this award. We would like to thank our local and loyal customers for their support over the years and our staff who are a real credit to us. We have a traditional village pub giving a warm and friendly atmosphere with a great mixture of characters thereby creating a community spirit.”
A regular entry in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide, it is described in the latest edition as “a rare village drinkers’ pub that relies solely on its wet trade”. The four beers on offer change frequently and are chosen in consultation with the regulars.
Tim Spitzer, Chairman of West Norfolk CAMRA said "Trevor and Mandy’s hard work have made the Union Jack an excellent example of a pub which serves and involves the local community. With the many sports activities it supports, occasional live music and beer festivals it has lots to offer to both the locals and visitors.”
The presentation of the award will be announced in the next few weeks.
